PSC CUNY Research Award Competition
Program Information
The Professional Staff Congress-City University of New York (PSC-CUNY) Research Award Program was established as a major vehicle for the University’s encouragement and support of faculty research and to leverage external funding. It seeks to enhance the University’s role as a research institution, to further the professional growth and development of its faculty, and to provide support for both the established and the younger scholar. Awards are distributed by the University Committee on Research Awards, a faculty committee, and administered by the Research Foundation of CUNY. Preference is given to junior faculty in the allocation of funds.
Deadlines for PSC-CUNY Round 57:
- The application submission deadline for all application types (Track 1, Track 2 and Post-Tenure Reassigned Time Award Pilot) is December 15, 2025
- Award notification (Track 1, Track 2 and Post-Tenure Reassigned Time Award Pilot) is May 15, 2026
Types of Awards
Track 1, Track 2
In order to maximize opportunities for funding, approximately 75-80 percent of the funds are available for these three categories:
- Track 1 Awards: a maximum of $7,000 may be requested. Three page limit.
- Track 2 Awards: a maximum of 7,001 to 15,000 may be requested. Five page limit.
Track 1 and 2 Award applications are subject to review only by the discipline-based Review Panel to which they are submitted.
The Review Panels are not permitted to modify budget proposals; successful applications will be fully funded. Appropriateness and relevance of the budget to the proposal, therefore, is an important review criterion.
Post-Tenure Reassigned Time
The Post-Tenure Reassigned Time Award is a pilot program (“the Pilot”) that provides course release(s) for tenured Assistant and Associate Professors to engage in meritorious research, scholarly, and creative activities.
The Pilot shares the same objectives and will enable the same types of faculty research projects as the PSC-CUNY Research Awards program. The Pilot guidelines are identical to PSC-CUNY Research Award guidelines unless otherwise specified.
Structure
Post-Tenure Reassigned Time Awards will provide the following based on an eligible Principal Investigator’s (“PI”) institution of employment:
- CUNY Senior College, Comprehensive College, or Professional School: one (1) 3-credit course release at the Adjunct Replacement rate as of December 15 of the application year.
The Awards for the Pilot duration will be: - For Academic Year 2025-2026: $6,024.60 for a 3-credit course release and $12,049.20 for a 6-credit course release
- For Academic Year 2026-2027: $6,986.40 for a 3-credit course release and $13,972.80 for a 6-credit course release
- For Academic Year 2027-2028: $7,100 for a 3-credit course release and $14,200 for a 6-credit course release
